Do you really understand packaging printing? The answer is not the most important thing, effective output is the value of this article. When it comes to packaging products, designers often overlook the details before printing. Especially for packaging designers, they often have little knowledge about printing, making them like “outsiders”. To strengthen communication between packaging design and factories, this article will reiterate some of the easily overlooked details before printing!
1. Color mode
Printing files must be CMYK mode. If they are not converted to CMYK, it is very likely that the designed effect will not be printed, which is what we often call color difference problem. The color of CMYK is often darker than RGB.
2. Font conversion / outline
Generally, few factories are able to install all Chinese and English fonts. If the factory’s computer does not have the font, it will cause the font to not display properly. Therefore, fonts in packaging design files must be converted to curves.
3. How is color difference produced?
The color of printed matter is affected by factors such as color mode, the physical properties of the substrate, machine process parameters, the experience of ink technicians and light. Different factors will produce corresponding color differences.
4. Types of cosmetic packaging printing
Offset printing: The inked image will be transferred (or “offset”) from a plate to a rubber blanket and then to the packaging surface.
Silk screen printing: A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to touch the tube surface. We can print the silk screen clear and colorful.
Hot stamping:Hot stamping is a printing method of relief printing in which pre-dried ink or foils are transferred to packaging tube surface. The printing content will be customized on the specific die, and when the die swiping across the foil at high temperature, the content will be transferred to the packaging tube surface.

In conclusion, these are the often-overlooked details that need to be taken into account when designing packaging and printing. Ignoring these details may result in a lot of trouble and cost. By actively communicating with printing factories, we can facilitate and produce effective and successful packaging products.
